The Gujarat Govt Has Approved The Creation Of New District Named Vav-Tharad.

In Gujarat, the government has approved the creation of a new district named Vav-Tharad, which will be established by dividing the existing Banaskantha district in North Gujarat. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar on January 1, 2025. Vav-Tharad is set to become the 34th district in the state, with its administrative headquarters located in Tharad.

The cabinet has ratified a proposal to upgrade nine municipalities to Municipal Corporation status. The municipalities that will be affected by this change include Navsari, Vapi, Anand, Nadiad, Mehsana, Surendranagar, Morbi, Porbandar, and Gandhidham. As a result, the state will now have a total of 17 Municipal Corporations and 149 Municipalities.
