Maharashtra : The 207th Shaurya Day Celebrated at Koregaon Bhima

The 207th Shaurya Diwas is being commemorated at Koregaon Bhima in Maharashtra on January 1, 2025. Thousands of devotees from across the state and beyond have assembled to pay homage to the Vijaystambha.

During the observance of the 207th Bravery Day at Koregaon Bhima, a significant number of individuals came together to honor the Vijaystambha. Ramdas Athawale, the Union Minister of State for Social Justice, also paid his respects on this occasion. Koregaon Bhima, located in Pune district, Maharashtra, is historically significant for the battle that took place on January 1, 1818, along the banks of the Bhima River. This conflict involved the British East India Company and the Peshwas and was a pivotal event in the Third Anglo-Maratha War, which ultimately led to the decline of Peshwa authority.

Following this battle, the British East India Company established dominance over a large portion of western, central, and southern India. In 1927, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, visited and paid tribute to this victory pillar. Since that time, countless individuals have gathered annually on January 1 to express their reverence.
