The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that 2024 has been recorded as the warmest year in India since 1901. During a virtual media briefing, the Director General of IMD indicated that minimum temperatures across the majority of the country are anticipated to exceed normal levels in January, with the exception of certain regions in the east, northwest, and west-central areas.

Additionally, maximum temperatures are also projected to be above normal in most regions. The western and northern sections of Central India are expected to experience an increased number of cold wave days compared to the typical January conditions. Furthermore, the IMD reported that rainfall in northern India from January to March is likely to be below the normal range.
